ABOUTME

Hi my name is Amanda Norey… here you will find some stories about my life since being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. I always try to see the humour in most of it and I realise having the right attitude is tough but so very important.

I actually have Primary Progressive MS and it sounds kinda bad but but I’m currently in what’s called a Non Active phase. This means I’m not deteriorating however I have not miraculously reverted to what I used to be able to do, these scars and lesions made their mark I guess. So I march on, well more like stumble however optimism is a great motivator.

I write when I feel there is something interesting to say. This site is really for my own benefit as writing is a great outlet for my own sanity ;) Anyhoo if you stumble across me have a read and hopefully a giggle or two x

MY STORY

So when is the right time to say ‘hey guess what, I’m actually disabled!’

For a while now I’ve hidden behind Zoom calls looking totally fit and healthy but hiding a deep dark secret….and that is in reality,I walk like I’m auditioning for the Walking Dead!

It’s ok to laugh at this point; humour is such a cure for so much.

I have been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, and I won’t bore you with the ins and outs but essentially this means that messages from my brain don’t always make it to my legs.  This results in walking like I have had one too many sherbets, falling over as if I’m tripping on air and having to give up my lifelong addiction to high heels.

THE LATEST FROM MY JOURNAL

  • IF ONLY ...

I reviewed my LinkedIn connections which go back to 2007. I was amazed at how many connections are now retired and even dare I say, dead – that sounds terribly morbid of me but let me elaborate…

  • OXYGEN & A CUTE FARM EXPERIENCE

..in my endeavours to find something to assist me in my battle with an incurable disease I find myself emulating Matt Damon in the Martian.  Who knew Oxygen Therapy was a thing!  There I am with 9 other people all sitting with plastic hoods which are secured to a rubber neck collar fitted to pipes. I’m inside what can only be described as an enormous oil drum, as a voice comes over the tannoy to advise our dive is about to begin, my journey to the centre of the earth has begun, more about that later..

  • CONNECTION - IT MATTERS

One of the most frustrating things for me it that I no longer drive, this is the person who has probably circumnavigated the M25 enough times to have at least used up 5 years of her life…
